 Assam is famous for its handicraft business, particularly weaving and embroidery is one of the main industry of Assam. Assamese make beautiful designs and borders on traditional garments and ladies wears. Cotton, Muga silk, Paat silk, Eri silk are common fabrics widely used for weaving. Images of animals,human figures, creepers, flowers, birds etc. are embroidered on hand loom products. Saree's, shawls, jackets, table spreads, mats and napkins are the common products. Seats, mats and cushions are made with fiber.
Assamese make beautiful furniture and roof tiles with cane. They are also expert in making traditional bamboo crafts & wood crafts. Exquisite wood carving are seen in the doors. Assamese terracotta products are exquisite examples of immaculate craftsmanship. Hajo and Sarthebari in Kamrup district of Assam are famous for brass and bell metal crafts respectively. The main products are Kalash, Sarai, Kahi (dish) Bati (bowl) etc. |
